Term 1

Can you believe we are at the end of the first term!

The children have worked hard and are looking forward to their well earned break.

Please continue to read to your child every day throughout the holiday and play games using dice or dominoes to reinforce their counting skills.

Please can you also ensure that your child practices dressing and undressing themselves including putting on their coat as they are really going to need to be able to do this independently next term.

In phonics they have learned the sounds m, a, s, d, t, i, n, p, g, o, c, k, u, b, f, e, l, h, . Please encourage your child to spot these sounds when you are reading or play games where you sound out the word and your child finds the correct object. If you are unsure about sounds please see the earlier links.

Most importantly, have fun!

Week beginning 04/10/21

This week we have learnt the sounds 'i' as in 'insect', 'n' as in 'net', 'p' as in 'pirate' and 'g' as in 'girl'. Please practise spotting words that begin with these sounds at home.

Week Beginning 27/09/2021

Welcome to Reception's page.

Welcome to Reception at Heron Park Primary Academy! We are all really excited to have you as part of our school. The gates open at 8:40am in the morning and close at 8:50am. Home time is 3:00pm.

This term our topic is called 'Starry Night'. We are finding out about some of the different animals that come out at night and what happens when we go to sleep.

Please, please can you ensure that all of your child's clothing, P.E bag and bookbag is named as it can be really hard to find their rightful owner.

As the children explore and learn, their uniform will inevitably get dirty. Aprons are provided for art and water-tray activities and the children are encouraged to roll sleeves up but the mud and paint will always find a way onto a jumper. It should be seen as a sign your child has had a busy day investigating their environment.

Please keep an eye out for the link to activate your Tapestry account. Once set up, please remember to add pictures and comments to feed into your child's profile.

Early Learning Goals and Characteristics of Effective Learning

Key learning

Our key texts this term are Owl Babies by Martin Waddell, Ruby's Worry by Tom Percival and Bedtime for Monsters by Ed Vere Which we will look at in depth.

Our featured author is 'Martin Waddell' and we will read many of his stories and debate our favourites together.

At Heron Park we use Read, Write, Inc to deliver our phonics learning. Below are links to some useful videos that give you an introduction to Read Write Inc and how each sound is pronounced.

As the year progresses, please ensure your child reads their reading book to you every day. This will give them lots of practice of recognising and blending sounds together.

Encourage your child to keep their eyes focused on the text and not to look up at you and to track the words with their finger as they read.

P.E day is: Wednesday

Please ensure your child has their P.E kit in school and that all items of clothing are named. You may like to check that plimsolls/trainers are also  named.

Home Learning

We ask that you read to your child every day. It is fine if they like the same story over and over again, but they also have the opportunity to bring a class book home everyday.  Later in the year they will also bring a suitable book home to read to you. With all of the books, can you please record in their reading records information such as whether they enjoyed it not or if they were able to recognise any words.

We will also be sending home a special book related to our core text for you to share with your child overnight. This will come with a vocabulary grid for you to keep and practise at home. Please ensure the book is returned promptly so that everyone gets a turn.

To support maths learning we will be sending a maths activity each week on Friday. Please ensure that this is returned the following Thursday.
