This term we are really excited to be reading Hello Lighthouse by Sophie Blackall. The story and illustrations are fantastic! Our writing tasks will be based around this wonderful book and they will include: Designing and writing about our own lighthouse; letter writing and creating poetry about the Northern Lights.
Our new topic is Coastline. We will be exploring coastal towns, daring sea rescues, effects of coastal erosion and how life in coastal towns have changed over time. We will draw comparisons between Whitby and Eastbourne and finally use all this knowledge to create our own coastal town!
We were very lucky to have a virtual visit from a RNLI volunteer who told us about how to stay safe in water and the role of the RNLI. We have compared their rescues with those from an older time period and can see how modern advances in technology have created equipment that increases the safety and success of sea rescues.
This term for our artwork we have been exploring posters and postcards advertising seaside towns. We have looked at the colours, tones and lines used. We have chosen a style of artwork we like and will be using this to create our own postcard to advertise a coastal town that we create! We will explore different materials to try to create strong, bold colours and sharp, clean lines. Once we have chosen our materials we will design our postcard to try to attract tourists to come and visit our fictional coastal town.
We are going to be finding out about the similarities and differences we all have and celebrating them! We will also learn more about Remembrance Day, what this means and what the poppy represents.
