Term 6

English Reading and Writing

In Destination Reader and Writing this term, we will be looking at ‘Nim’s Island’, we will be focusing on our prediction skills, using our comprehension and understanding to develop our own theories of what will happen next.  In writing, we will use a range of writing purposes that include writing in the style of the author for our own stories and persuasive leaflet writing. 



With writing, please ensure your child continues to practise their Common Exception Words spellings at home using the materials we have provided.

With reading, the children should continue to access a range of texts that utilise their AR books (brought home daily and read at least 4 times per week) and their MyOn online reading support.

This term in maths, we are continuing to use the NCTEM recovery resources in connection with the National Curriculum to develop our mathematical reasoning and understandings around measure looking at both perimeter and money. We will also be revisiting number and place value to ensure we have a secure knowledge of mental mathematics.

We will focus on developing the use of known maths facts and different strategies to ask and answer varying reasoning questions relating to measure.




This term in science, we are developing our knowledge of scientific inquiry! We will develop our prior learning from the EYFS to our Year 3 objectives which include:

- Asking relevant questions and using different types of scientific enquiries to answer them.

- Setting up simple practical enquiries, comparative and fair tests.

 - Making systematic and careful observations 

 - Gathering, recording, classifying and presenting data in a variety of ways to help in answering questions.

 - Using results to draw simple conclusions and make predictions.

We will be revisiting our Light topic to expand on our scientific enquiry. Below are some of the areas we will be revisiting and expanding on.




Postcards from the seaside

This term, we are starting our topic focus looking at our local and surrounding area as a seaside resort. We will be developing our Geographical skills by researching online with digital maps, using ordnance surveys and atlases. 

By the end of this term, we will have investigated our Key Concepts which are to:


  • Explain how the unique features of an environment help us navigate a place.


  • Apply knowledge of a location in order to navigate a place.


  • Identify where this place is situated on a personal/local/regional scale.


We will also be able to discuss and articulate our conceptual focus which is 'Geographically speaking, how can we identify the area we live in by its characteristics?'





Our P.E days this term will be Friday and Tuesday. Children should come to school in their P.E kit. We will be focussing on Athletics and will also look at batting sports such as Tennis and Cricket.
