Music
The importance of Music
Music is a broad and enriching subject that offers an outlet for creativity while strengthening skills across the wider curriculum. It promotes self-expression and supports the wellbeing of all learners.
Vision
At Heron Park Primary Academy, we are musicians. Guided by our motto — We care, we play, we grow and ALWAYS try our best — we want every child to love music and believe there are no limits to their ambitions. Our aim is for pupils to leave Heron Park with joyful, rich musical memories, created through exciting experiences that build confidence and celebrate individual strengths. We see music as a lifelong journey, not a one-off event, and ensure every child has access to a wide range of musical opportunities. We encourage full participation and value music education as an essential part of learning. With our specialist music rooms, equipment and unique performance stage in our school hall, we provide an inspiring space that nurtures creativity and a positive culture for music to flourish.
Lessons
At Heron Park Primary Academy, music is a key part of our curriculum. In EYFS and KS1, we use Sing Up Music to provide an inclusive, progressive approach that builds confidence through singing, rhythm, and creative activities. In KS2, music is taught by a specialist teacher following the Sussex Music School Curriculum, ensuring high-quality provision and progression. Pupils develop skills in singing, performing, composing, and listening, while learning to use instruments and technology.
We offer pupils the chance to learn specific instruments, with 1:1 lessons provided by Sussex Music School teachers in partnership with families.
