Term 1 Reading and Writing

We love reading!  This term we are going to be enjoying a variety of fiction and non-fiction books.  Many of these will be linked to our topic 'Pudding to Pepys' about the Great Fire of London.

These are some of our books we will enjoy.

In writing we will focus on; handwriting, using capital letters and full stops, writing at greater length and editing work. Children continuing RWI will continue to learn the rest of the phonic sounds and 'red words'. Most children will come home with a Read Write Inc book that they should be able to read independently. Some children will bring home a book from the library, once they have read it they will then take a quiz to access their understanding. It is extremely important to listen to your child read and read to them every day. These are the year 2 words that the children need to learn to read and spell by the end of the year.

Term 1 History - Pudding to Pepys.

Our first topic is very exciting! We will be learning about the Great Fire of London. Our key question is 'some people believe that the Great Fire of London was a good thing – do you agree?'

Key concepts -

We will learn to describe how a historical event was caused and what happened as a result.

We will explore how things have changed between a period in history and the present, giving simple reasons.

We will identify how one period in history has connections with others.

Music

In Music we will be learning to experiment with instruments - creating, selecting and combining sounds to represent different types of weather with our music teacher Mrs Fairhead.  Our focus will by on dynamics.
