Term 1 - Writing and Destination Reader
This term, we are studying the book 'Krindlekrax' by Phillip Ridley. This book is about a young boy called Ruskin Splinter and his journey to become the hero he always wanted to be!
In reading, we will focus on the important learning behaviours which allow us to work with a partner and discuss the text effectively. We will be working through reading skills such as prediction and inference.
We will also be using this book to support our written work, starting off by writing a letter to a hero of our own - David Attenborough, Marcus Rashford and Mr Beast have been some popular choices so far. We will then use our adjectives to create a new character who lives on Lizard Street. Finally, we will link our text to our topic work on the Vikings and will compare the creature Krindlekrax to Norse mythological monsters!
How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell is another really good text which links to our topic. Have you read the book or seen the films?
Our class story this term is The Boy at the back of the Class by Onjali Rauf.
We encourage the children to read regularly at home and when their books are finished, they can take a quiz to check their understanding. Children can also log onto MyON to support their reading at home.
Term 1 - Maths
This term we will be working on our place value, number and calculations knowledge. We will be checking how to set out these calculations and will be using equipment and resources to help us. We will also be continuing to work on our times table recall by doing weekly quizzes. You can use Times Table Rockstar to help improve your score!
