Term 4

Welcome to Term 4! 
Please have a read of the information below to find out what your child will be learning all about this half-term. 
We have also included several links to websites to support learning at home, that will compliment what we are doing in school, which we hope you will find useful.

As always, if you have any questions about your child's progress or learning, please do get in touch!

Children will be able to:

This term we will be working on connecting one idea or action to another using a range of connective. We will listen to and talk about stories, rhymes and non-fiction texts and describe events in detail.

This term we are focussing on the importance of being healthy.

We will:

  • Continue to build constructive and respectful relationships.
  • Play with others and find solutions without adult support.
  • Identify and moderate their own feelings socially and emotionally.
  • Describe what is a healthy food choice.
  • Explore why exercise is important.

This term we will be focussing on gymnastics, through this,

Children will be able to:

  • Gain core strength.
  • Develop co-ordination, balance and agility.
  • Explore different ways of moving and navigating the space around them.
  • Continue to develop the foundations of an appropriate writing style.

Literacy

Understanding the World

This term our key texts will be Here we are, My Granny is a pirate and the Smeds and the Smoos.  Using these texts we will be working on:

  • Reading groups of letters using “Fred Talk” to break words into individual sounds and then blend them to make a word.
  • Writing words using the same skills and then writing short sentences.
  • Using finger spaces, capital letters and full stops.

 

This term we will we working on:

  • Counting objects, actions and sounds.
  • Counting beyond ten.
  • Comparing numbers.
  • Continue, copy and create repeating patterns.
  • Comparing length, weight and capacity.

This term we will be working on:

  • Drawing information from a simple map.
  • Understanding that some places are special to members of their community.
  • Be able to recognise that people have different beliefs and celebrate special times in different ways.
  • Exploring the natural world around them.
  • Be able to understand the effect of changing seasons on the natural world around them.

  • Exploring and using a range of materials to support and extend their learning.
  • Learning, singing and recalling a wide range of songs.
  • Exploring, using and refining a variety of artistic effects to express their ideas and feelings.
  • Returning to and building on their previous learning, refining ideas and developing their ability to represent them.
  • Creating collaboratively, sharing ideas, resources and skills.
