At Heron Park, we take great pride in our PE curriculum and after-school sports programme. The high quality of our sporting provision has been recognised in our last two Ofsted reports.

Alongside delivering rich, engaging PE lessons taught by our own teachers, we also offer a wide-ranging after-school sports programme. This commitment has helped the Academy develop a conveyor belt of successful teams, with our trophy cabinet serving as testament to their achievements.

The Academy achieves this by investing its PE and Sport Premium funding in our outdoor play provision, a high-quality PE scheme of work, and opportunities for children to participate in local competitions, including funding for transport and team kit.

All children receive one high-quality PE lesson each week:

Term 1 - 3 weeks Team Building Skills / OAA, 4 weeks Ball Skills / Invasion Games

Term 2 - 6 weeks Ball Skills / Invasion Games

Term 3 - 6 weeks Dance

Term 4 - 6 weeks Gymnastics

Term 5 - 6 weeks Athletics

Term 6 - 7 weeks Striking and Fielding Games / Over the Net Games

We also provide a variety of sports and dance after-school clubs through our sports provider, Infinite Sport, which are available to all pupils in Years 1 to 6. Activities range from dance and volleyball to football and gymnastics. The breadth of opportunities on offer ensures that there is something for everyone throughout the year.

In the 2025-2026 academic year, we were delighted to achieve the Silver School Games Mark, recognising our commitment to providing high-quality sporting opportunities for all pupils.
