The Importance of Religious Education
At Heron Park, we believe it is essential to prepare our pupils for life in a diverse and ever‑changing world. The Religious Education curriculum enables pupils to explore a wide range of religious and non‑religious worldviews, helping them to understand what matters to different people, cultures, and communities.
Vision
At Heron Park, our vision for Religious Education is rooted in our school values: We care, we play, we grow and always try our best.
RE provides children with rich opportunities to explore the world around them, building connections with people, cultures and communities locally and globally. Through learning about a wide variety of faiths and worldviews, we nurture pupils’ curiosity and encourage them to develop their own ideas and perspectives over time.
We want our children to grow into thoughtful, informed and respectful individuals. This means developing a secure understanding of the beliefs and values of others, learning to question, compare and discuss big questions, and engaging in meaningful debate. Through this, pupils learn to care about others, to understand difference, and to celebrate the diverse world we live in—helping them become well‑rounded and compassionate members of society.
Parents and carers have the legal right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Education (RE). If you are considering this, we encourage you to speak with the Headteacher first so we can discuss the curriculum, answer any questions you may have, and explore how we can support your child’s learning.
If, after this discussion, you still wish to withdraw your child, please put your request in writing to the Headteacher. The school will make suitable arrangements for your child during RE lessons.
