The Importance of Geography
When children get a chance to express their creativity, they develop confidence. They increase their empathy and discover how to look at the world from different perspectives. Those skills help prepare children to take on the world with passion and creativity.
Geography helps children to understand the world around them and broadens their appreciation of people and places. As well as developing their knowledge, they discover the skills to navigate the world beyond their local community and to engage as global citizens.
Geography provides a platform for children to make sense about the wider world. It enables children to develop place and locational knowledge, human and physical geography and geographical skills and fieldwork.
Geography teaches children to have respect for the people and places in this world and foster a curiosity towards the ever changing planet that we all share. Heron Park Primary Academy aspires for all pupils to leave in Year 6 ready to fully participate in the world around us as they prepare to live, study and work beyond our community. We want our children to have the skills, concepts and knowledge necessary for them to flourish in their surroundings.
